This country report, prepared by Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in collaboration with FAO, reviews the impacts of climate change on fisheries and aquaculture in Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelagic state and a major producer of farmed and wild aquatic foods. The report outlines how changes in sea temperature, sea level, rainfall and extreme weather affect marine capture fisheries, coastal and inland aquaculture, and seaweed cultivation, which is a critical livelihood for many coastal communities. It summarises the national initiatives Indonesia has taken to address these impacts, covering both adaptation measures that reduce sector vulnerability and mitigation efforts that lower emissions or enhance carbon storage. The document also discusses institutional and implementation challenges, such as coordination across agencies, limited data, funding constraints and the difficulty of reaching dispersed small-scale producers. As an official national-level document, it provides a clear picture of how the government frames climate risk in the marine and aquaculture sectors and which policy instruments it relies on. It is best used as a national policy reference for Indonesia, for comparing country approaches within ASEAN, and for identifying gaps where research, capacity building or regional cooperation could support more effective climate action.
