This 2022 book chapter by Rahayu Sukmaria Sukri and Dk Wah, published in the Springer volume Climate Change Adaptation in Southeast Asia, provides a national overview of climate change adaptation in Brunei Darussalam. The chapter reviews the country’s climate vulnerabilities across key sectors, including energy, water and agriculture, and considers how rising temperatures, changing rainfall patterns, sea-level rise and extreme weather could affect national development. It summarises Brunei’s adaptation actions, policies and institutional arrangements, and highlights gaps in knowledge, data and implementation. Among its recommendations is a call for more climate studies focused on Borneo as a region, recognising that Brunei’s ecological and climatic context is shared with neighbouring parts of Malaysia and Indonesia. Although the chapter does not focus specifically on aquaculture, its analysis of agriculture and water-sector vulnerability has clear implications for aquatic food production, which depends on reliable freshwater supply and stable coastal conditions. Classed as contextual evidence under Policy, Governance and Institutions, it provides useful national adaptation framing. It is best used alongside Brunei’s government climate resources and the few available technical studies to situate aquaculture within national adaptation priorities and to identify research needs.
