This FAO project (GCP/CMB/037/LDF), implemented between 2021 and 2025 with Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment and Fisheries Administration and financed through the GEF Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF), targets climate adaptation and resilience in the country’s coastal fishery-dependent communities. Cambodia’s coastline supports many households that rely on small-scale fishing, mangrove-linked resources and coastal aquaculture, yet these communities face growing climate risks such as stronger storms, sea-level rise, coastal erosion and changing fish stocks, compounded by ecosystem degradation. The project seeks to strengthen the resilience of coastal ecosystems, especially mangroves and associated habitats, while helping communities develop more adaptive and diversified livelihoods. Typical components include ecosystem restoration, community-based resource management, climate-resilient livelihood options, capacity building for local institutions and the integration of climate considerations into coastal and fisheries planning. By combining ecological and social interventions, it reflects an integrated approach to reducing vulnerability in low-income coastal settings. The project is classed as direct evidence and adds valuable country-level programme experience for Cambodia, where targeted aquaculture adaptation studies remain limited. It is useful for identifying implementation lessons, local partners and scalable models, and serves as a potential partnership entry point for follow-on research or investment.
