Impacts of climate change on fisheries and aquaculture – Synthesis of current knowledge, adaptation and mitigation options, edited by M. Barange, T. Bahri, M.C.M. Beveridge, K.L. Cochrane, S. Funge-Smith and F. Poulain, was published in 2018 as FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Technical Paper No. 627. This landmark synthesis updates FAO’s earlier assessments and provides a comprehensive review of how climate change affects marine and inland fisheries and aquaculture worldwide. It covers projected changes in fish production potential, impacts by region and major water body, vulnerability of countries and communities, and the economic and social consequences for fisheries-dependent populations. The volume includes three dedicated chapters on aquaculture, addressing climate impacts on production systems, vulnerability and adaptation options. It also presents toolboxes of adaptation and mitigation responses that can be adopted by governments, industry and communities. Classed as direct evidence under Climate Science and Projections, it is a foundational sector synthesis and one of the most frequently cited references on the topic. It is useful for establishing the conceptual and evidence framework of literature reviews, for policy briefings, and for identifying adaptation and mitigation options relevant to Southeast Asian fisheries and aquaculture.
