The ASEAN Partnership for Sustainable Aquaculture (AquASEAN) is a SEARCA research project running from 2025 to 2027, implemented with CIRAD, the ASEAN Secretariat and other partners. The initiative aims to promote sustainable and climate-responsible aquaculture across Southeast Asia, with activities including the Philippines. It brings together research institutions, government bodies and private-sector partners to develop and test practical solutions that improve the sustainability and resilience of aquaculture systems. Key elements include climate-responsible pilot interventions on farms, capacity building for researchers, extension workers and producers, and policy support to help governments integrate sustainable and climate-smart practices into national and regional frameworks. Circularity and resource efficiency are important themes, reflecting interest in reducing waste and environmental impacts while maintaining productivity. According to the matrix’s scope notes, the project is active through November 2027. Classed as direct and strategic evidence under Knowledge, Capacity and Decision Support, AquASEAN is identified as an important emerging regional initiative. It is useful as a partnership entry point for institutions seeking to collaborate on regional aquaculture research, for aligning national projects with regional priorities, and for tracking new evidence and policy recommendations on climate-resilient aquaculture in Southeast Asia.
